Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Things are different right now with the state of the COVID-19 stuff. Most of our local and state governments have mandated a shelter-in-place order. There are people still panicking and then there are those who are just diligently concerned for their safety and the safety of those they love.
There are people buying in bulk and hoarding, planning for the end of days. Then there are those who are looking to do more for others.
I have been blessed to be able to take my kids to school every morning, well until a few months ago. Now things are different, they are homeschooled. Which, honestly is a blessing I didn’t see coming. But God did.
When dropping my kids off for school, I pray over them. One of the things I send them off with is a thanks to Jesus for using them to be a light in the world.
There is a reason we have the Bible. God left us the Bible so we could have His Word to speak over ourselves. He gives us authority and creative power with our words as we are created in His image.
When Jesus said He is the light of the world and we will have the light of life, He explained how we are to be a light in the world as He is within us.
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:16
When we start to seek His Kingdom and we look to His Word, we can see the pattern. Our bodies are the temple. The Holy Spirit dwells within us. Jesus said we will have the light of life. Therefore, we are a light to the world.
Jesus used several references to explain this principle.
“No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.
Here Jesus tells us to not hide our light. Again, we are to be a light in the world. Where we go, we take the Holy Spirit with us.
I want to encourage you today. Even though in the midst of everything going on around us, you have the presence of God where you are. Even though Church time is now spent at home, do not miss the opportunity to spend time with God. You are the Church. You are the light of the world. Your body is His temple and He dwells with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
When I thank God that my children are a light in the world and to be used for His glory, I am also speaking that over myself. It’s my job as a dad to explain those things to them. I am the spiritual leader of my house and as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord our God.
Remember, you are the light. Don’t lose sight of that. Enjoy your time with Him. Thank Him for this opportunity to be in His presence and have more time than usual to spend with Him.
Blessings and love, not fear and turmoil. Joy and courage is what we need to remember. Because of Him, we can have peace and joy while the world is troubled.
